Dress Code

Philosophy:

Students and staff should wear clothes which project professionalism – our official dress code is ‘dress as smart as you can’. This is the key principle and failure to adhere to it is a breach of the dress code.

Formal occasions, which include whole school assemblies and any special events, such as the Remembrance Service and Celebration Evening, require more formal wear. Students must wear a smart suit jacket or blazer – not coat – for all of these. Students must also always wear their school lanyard when in the building or at school events– not to do so is a safeguarding breach.

Inappropriate Items:

Whilst this dress code is purposefully written to allow for some personal interpretation, the following items are incompatible with the professional environment of HWSF.

- sweatshirts, hoodies and clothing with slogans and/or overt branding

- informal trousers (jeans, combat trousers, jogging bottoms, leggings, shorts, etc.)

- tank tops, crop tops, strappy tops, backless clothing

- informal footwear, like trainers (yes, even smart ones), canvas shoes, and Ugg boots

This list is not exhaustive - final judgement as to what is appropriate lies with the Head of House and Senior Team.

Transgressions:

Students who come to school inappropriately dressed will be advised of this and asked to conform in future. Sanctions will be used if a student repeatedly fails to meet an acceptable standard of professional wear. This will be tracked by logging uniform issues on Bromcom, and by Heads of House monitoring this data and setting sanctions where appropriate.
