Entrance Examinations

Admission to Harris Westminster Sixth Form is based on performance in subject-specific entrance exams and interviews. The exams are held online each January for entry the following September.

Step 1: Apply

  • Choose four subjects you would like to study.
  • From these, select two subjects in which you will sit entrance exams (note: there are no exams in Art, Core Maths or the Extended Project Qualification.)
  • If you choose Mathematics and Further Mathematics, you must sit the Mathematics exam.

Step 2: Find out more

Step 3: Sit the exams

  • Exams are held in January for entry in September. All students sit the examinations online, on the same day.
  • You will sit two subject exams, written by our teachers.
  • The focus is on understanding and reasoning, not memorisation. Questions are based on material covered in Years 10–11 and are not tied to any exam board.
  • If you will have difficulty sitting the online exams from home, please let us know at the time of being invited to take exams.

Step 4: Additional requirements (if applicable)

  • If you apply for Music, Drama & Theatre Studies, German, Latin, Greek, or Russian, these subjects are taught at Westminster School and require an additional exam (unless you chose to sit it as one of your original two exams) and interview.
  • If you are not offered a place on a Westminster School course, your Harris Westminster Sixth Form offer still stands — you’ll simply switch to a subject taught here.
  • Native speakers are not eligible for the Russian course.

Step 5: Await an offer to interview

  • Students who score above a set threshold will be invited for interview in order of priority– see our policy for more information.
  • Continue to study hard for your GCSE subjects.
