Sport
Over the course of the last year, students have been able to choose from a huge variety of sporting options on a Thursday afternoon, including, but not limited to:
Football (6-a-side) | Badminton | Basketball |
Football (11-a-side) | Dance | Pilates |
Yoga | Running | Spinning |
Netball | Table tennis | Tennis |
Capoeira | Fencing | Functional training |
A small number of students choose Debating as a Thursday option. Like a sports team, the debaters practise and train for competitions. The debating circuit is extensive and competitive: students take part in competitions organised by the Oxford and Cambridge Unions, by the English Speaking Union and in friendlies with other schools. Over the last two years Harris Westminster students have been successful in reaching Oxford Finals Day and have established themselves as serious competitors in the schools debating world.
Students can also opt for Bridge, the fascinating card game of infinite complexity. Each session includes a lesson on an aspect of bidding strategy or card play, followed by a game of duplicate. We often welcome a guest expert from the English Bridge Union. The school’s Bridge Team has played competitively against other schools and also benefits from a link to the Young Chelsea Bridge Club and their ‘Play with an Expert’ evenings.
