Our Values & Ethos

"Learning is Amazing"

Our Values

We are proud to be a fully inclusive school that promotes equality and diversity. Priority places go to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and all students and staff at HWSF are here to embrace all aspects of learning. We don't confine learning to A-Levels, are intellectually curious, and want to learn about the world around us, the world beyond the A-Level curriculum, and most importantly, we want to learn about ourselves.

Our core values are:

  • Ambition
  • Perseverance
  • Legacy
  • Kindness
  • Scholarship

Our Ethos

As soon as you enter the building, you can feel the academic buzz and sense of community. You can immediately sense that HWSF is the kind of place where students explore, play with, enjoy academic learning – where niche interests become shared pursuits and obscure knowledge develops into discourse and debate. It’s an environment in which it’s safe to be yourself, to grow into adulthood and to find out what kind of person you want to be: developing life-long friendships, building confidence, chasing ambitions and taking responsibility for themselves and those around them. By the time students leave HWSF, they have been provided with the same opportunities as those at leading independent schools and are ready to take their places at the top universities, top degree-apprenticeships, or top employment opportunities, but perhaps more importantly they have become more interesting as individuals, more interested in each other and the world around, more able to take joy in their lives and their futures.

In the words of one of our students, Harris Westminster aims "to create the next generation of leaders." (Alejandro, Year 12) – not just leaders, but the best kind of leaders, builders of a better community, a better city, a better world.
